When mountain lions attack

Mountain lions have increased their attacks on people, usually hunters, since the 1970's with fifteen deaths in the last century. Strategies and techniques for protection when faced by a lion including maintaining eye contact are presented.

One hunter feels there are various reasons not to finish an animal after shooting it the first time. The animal will die on its own. If it sees a hunter approaching, it may struggle even more to get away instead of dying quietly.

Outdoor writer Norm Strung led a campaign to save old growth timber in the Cottonwood Canyon in Montana from logging. Strung died of cancer before the Plum Creek Timber Co sold the land to the Forest Service.
