Yankee simplicity
Article Abstract:
Fred Brown was a top runner in scores of Boston Marathons. Thirty years ago he started the annual Fresh Pond race in Cambridge, MA. This race has no awards, no tee shirts, or any of the fanfare other races incorporate. It is the bare bones of running, that is, running for the love of it. Brown passed away recently at the age of 86.

Giving thanks
Article Abstract:
Runners should conduct themselves after races as if they were guests at the sponsor's house, and should send a thank-you note. Thanks is deserved by the water-coolers, the judges, the inviters, and the photographers.
