Finland's mixed fortunes
Article Abstract:
The outlook of the Finnish marine and shipbuilding industry remains mixed for different firms in 1997. Financial indicators such as a strong currency, government subsidies, and a generally favorable overseas market have helped equipment suppliers achieve gains in business. Major shipbuilders such as Kvaerner Masa-Yards reported significant profits in 1996. Finnyards is on the verge of collapse following losses of about $43 million generated in 1996.
