Article Abstract:
The International Maritime Organization has urged the Contracting Governments to take necessary steps at national level to give effect to implementing the identification of ships, once the ship disappears over the horizon at long range. The satellite tracking system used mainly in commercial fishing and military sectors when implemented will make the maritime world a much safer place.

Call for change to port dues system
Article Abstract:
A number of safety measures have been implemented since the loss of the Derbyshire, but a group of Dutch maritime professionals feel more should be done. They believe the abolition of port dues which are charged on gross tonnage would improve safety.
