Sulzer's challenge
Article Abstract:
The RTA60C is the latest design for a low-speed engine developed by Warsila NSD. With output ranging from 8,250 to 18,800kW, the 60cm bore engine is suitable for smaller, faster types of shipping vessels, such as reefers, roros, car carriers and feeder vessels. Wartsila intended to develop an engine with a different speed range, but decided on the RTA60C after consultation with shipbuilders and shipowners. RTA60C deliveries could commence as early as the middle of 2000, but Wartsila has yet to sign up its first orders for the engine.
