Seat belt use in air-bag-equipped cars: 1986-92 models
Article Abstract:
Seat belts are still used despite the increasing number of cars that are equipped with air bags. A survey of 1986-89 model-year cars with air bags and without showed no difference in seat-belt use. There is evidence of high seat-belt use among drivers of 1986-92 model cars with air bags to disprove the notion that air bags have in any way replaced seat belts.

Increasing seat belt use in North Carolina
Article Abstract:
Publicity and enforcement programs to encourage seat belt use are successful to a great extent in North Carolina, and the public endorsed such efforts. Belt use is highest at the end of the program and drops in the following period, yet always remaining above the initial level. Belt usage increased from 64% to 80%, then came down to 73% by May, 1994. At the end of the second enforcement program in July 1994, it went up to 81%. The North Carolina results are the same as the Canadian results.
