All in the mind
Article Abstract:
Lifestyle-change programmes which are action-based do not generally assist people in making permanent lifestyle changes, as they fail to take account of the psychological processes which must be associated with making lifestyle changes, according to speakers at the recent conference of the Association for Worksite Health. It is vital that more attention is given to planning for lifestyle change, as this can greatly boost the participation rate in such programmes. A lifestyle change programme must have clear stages, with the participant's motivation increasing after each stage.

Young at heart
Article Abstract:
Health and fitness club managers should focus on providing facilities for those aged over 50-years-old who are keen to maintain a healthy lifestyle. More than 80% of the United Kingdom's wealth is thought to be held by the over 50's, and fitness providers would benefit from exploiting this niche market. Many over 50's do not consider themselves to be old and are experts on spending money wisely. They are more interested in service and quality than marketing techniques. A fitness club should be a friendly meeting point as well as a health centre.
