Euro vision
Article Abstract:
The tourist industry will be amongst the first industries in the UK to contemplate using the euro as its operating currency. This is because the 11 countries which have already adopted the euro as their currency supply 13.5 million of the UK's overseas visitors each year. These overseas visitors spend an annual total of 4 billion pounds sterling in Britain. The tourist industry should be preparing for the time when these customers, and industry suppliers, expect Britain to operate in euros. These plans might include staff training, software purchase or the opening of a euro bank account.

Another round of golf
Article Abstract:
Most UK golf courses were negatively affected by poor weather in spring 1998. This, along with the World Cup in summer 1998, served to restrict turnover. Overall profits are therefore set to be down in 1999. There has been a fall in value of between 5% and 10% over 1998 for most golf courses. However, the sector is set to experience a revival as long as the UK does not suffer a general recession. Golf course values are likely to rise in the medium term, as long as profits do not substantially decline.
