Article Abstract:
In 1998, the German travel industry produced a turnover of 270 billion Deutsche Marks (DM), of which around 10% is accounted for by international tourism revenue. Some 2.5 million people are employed in tourism in Germany and in 1998 total arrivals reached 96.4 million. An overview of recent trends is included, along with details of the German economy, number of tourist arrivals, details of transport and accommodation, and prospects for the future.

In 1998, tourism in Sri Lanka generated SLR19.8 million, up 18.3% on 1997. Employment in the tourist industry rose to 34,780. The country offers a variety of attractions including beaches, coral reefs, national parks and hill country. An overview of tourism and the economy is given, details of arrivals, transport, accommodation, foreign investment and prospects for the future.

Article Abstract:
Tourism in Bahrain is heavily supported by the government and tourist numbers for 1998 reached 2.9 million, up 11.4% from 1997. Arrivals from Western Europe amounted to 143,635 in 1998, dominated by the UK and Germany. Elsewhere in the Middle East, the millenium celebrations are expected to favour the Holy Land states of Israel, Jordan, Palestine and Egypt.
