Investing in the future? : Bob Cotton questions why the government remains shortsighted over the UKEs long-term tourism gains
Article Abstract:
Tourism is one of the most successful industries worldwide creating wealth and a large number of jobs, and same is the case in UK. But while the private sector, i.e. hotels and restaurants are making large investments in new facilities and attractions, and upgrade existing infrastructure every year, the government shows no interest in improving its promotional campaign, Visit Britain. The government is still allocating the same amount to tourism that it did 7 years back, even with high inflation rates.

Investment, not regulation
Article Abstract:
The new employment laws offer doubtful employee benefits with increased burden on the employers and the government recommendations on the usage of salt, sugar and fat are more like statutory regulations. These types of stifling regulations would not help the already suffering industry so a reasonable regulatory control might have encouraged investments and have created around 50,000 new jobs.
