Joint adventures
Article Abstract:
It is becoming clear that architects and interpretative designers will have to collaborate to ensure that new museums and visitor attractions in the UK meet the growing demand for the visitor experience to have emotional and psychological elements, rather than just being based on an intellectual level. If architects and interpretative designers work together, they have the opportunity to produce architectural form that really plays a sophisticated interpretative role. This has already been seen at the Guggenheim Museum in New York, NY, where the internal movement system creates the expressive external form.

Richard Foster
Article Abstract:
The conservation and care of collections is a key element in museum practice, according to National Museums and Galleries on Merseyside (NMGM) Director Richard Foster. NMGM's Conservation Centre has received the European Museum of The Year Award. Foster believes that the Conservation Centre has provided a global model in its outreach to the public and in conservation activities. He feels that this work shows how technology can be used to enhance the social and intellectual value of visiting museums.

Article Abstract:

There is no national quality grading scheme for museums yet, but progress is being made in this direction through initiatives such as the museum designation scheme. Many museums are beginning to place strong emphasis on strategic collaboration, and they are also starting to make use of modern marketing concepts.
