Look East
Article Abstract:
East Asia will account for about half of the anticipated $7.5 trillion gross world product during 1990 and the year 2000, says the IMF, with consumption growth in the region increasing drastically over the past two decades. The Pacific Rim and Asian regions are becoming increasingly important tourist destinations and are expected to account for 40% of the international air travel market by 2000 from 25% in 1985. More than 11 million Japanese travel abroad. Leisure development trends in the region are examined.

Leisure trends in the USA
Article Abstract:
The 1990s leisure industry must adapt to changing patterns in tourism and consumer behaviour. Economic constraints emphasise the need for planning and development based on market research. Present trends are to short breaks rather than long holidays. Destination bias is also changing. The leisure industry will need to provide a greater variety of activities to meet individual requirements. Individualised marketing strategies will also be necessary.
