Stephen Studd
Article Abstract:
Stephen Studd, seconded from the UK's Sports Council to be secretary of SPRITO, the UK's new sports and recreation industry training organisation, believes that one of its main priorities is a review of the NVQs (National Vocational Qualifications). SPRITO has some 15 months to consult with industry before the National Council of Vocational Qualifications reviews the NVQs in 1996. Studd says that SPRITO membership gives organisations a forum to discuss training needs and standards. SPRITO consists of 12 member organisations representing the sports and recreation industry.

Southampton City Council hopes that that the Young Archaeologists Club launched recently by its heritage unit will encourage young people to take part in digs and to take an interest in local history. The club will receive funding of 9,685 pounds sterling from the council in 1995-96, part of a 50,000 pounds sterling community archaeology budget. The scheme has already attracted considerable interest from the local community.
