Taking a gamble
Article Abstract:
UK leisure operators considering offering gambling via the Internet should be aware that there are a number of potential legal difficulties associated with this approach. Establishing an Internet Casino host in the UK would be illegal, although the 1963 Betting, Gaming and Lotteries Act would permit Internet betting, as UK-based credit brokers are able to take bets over the telephone. In this context, the Internet would be regarded as the same form as communications medium as the telephone. There may be problems with publishing interactive betting services and with enforcing payment of gambling debts.

Pocket money
Article Abstract:
Leisure operators in the UK have successfully improved the image surrounding the game of pool, and the game is increasing its importance in the leisure market. English pool is strong in the English pub venue, but it is American pool which is the newer, faster-growing entrant in the leisure market. The most successful sites for American pool tables include sports bars, FECs and bowling centres, where casual customers develop an attraction to the game. The timer facility is popular with customers, for the value for money which it offers, and with operators, for the charging flexibility it provides.
