Article Abstract:
The year 2003 has posed Canada's food service industry with real challenges and impediments like SARS, West Nile virus, BSE, a massive power outage, war in Iraq and avian influenza, which are to be faced and crossed towards the success. However, there are evidences of many companies of the industry who have crossed these barriers and balanced their stand on the highwire, and the case studies of a few of them are provided.

The new trends in food habits of consumers in Canada are discussed. People are giving more importance to breakfast and morning snacks, which have made the breakfast-sales grow higher than before. Another new trend is the demand for low carbohydrate and fresh food of good quality, which consumers find healthy to consume.
