Recruiting students
Article Abstract:
Federal and State budget cutbacks have forced colleges to compete for enrollment, and to do this, colleges have had to defy tradition and use direct marketing techniques to recruit new students. In California, because more women are attending college than men, and because it is estimated that more than 50 percent of the state's population will be Hispanic by 1990, universities are making women and minorities target markets. Prospective students are now choosing their colleges for particular career oriented reasons, and this is also changing college recruiting practices. Some of the advertising programs presently being used by schools are discussed.
