Article Abstract:
The Cordova Chamber of Commerce is launching the first Shorebird Festival from Apr 30 to May 9, 1993. This will celebrate, with art and music events, the migration of approximately 14 million shore birds that come to the area from as far away as Peru's Paracas Peninsula.

St. Herman was canonized in 1970 for his efforts to spread Christianity to natives in Alaska in the early 1800s. His retreat on Spruce Island is the focus of an annual pilgrimage which draws about 200 people each August.
