Article Abstract:
The drive from Anchorage to McCarthy, AK, is described. The Glenn Highway is a two-lane asphalt road until it becomes a one-lane gravel road for the last 58 miles into the bush town of McCarthy. The scenery is spectacular and there can be a wide range of temperatures. Trip highlights are presented.

Gate of the Arctic: paddling through Alaska's most hallowed wilderness
Article Abstract:
Rafting 10 miles of the North Fork for 10 days was one group's experience in enjoying one of the last great wilderness areas in the US. The refuge has 8.4 million acres and is devoid of most of the human activity in national parks since it receives only 3,000 visitors annually.
