AmEx cuts back overseas car-rental coverage

The high cost of providing collision-damage waiver coverage in Jamaica, Italy, Australia, New Zealand, Ireland and Israel caused American Express to cancel the coverage. The situation is unfortunate, as it could cause other credit card companies to cancel coverage which has long benefitted users.

Renters face bumpy road to rewards

Car rental companies are reducing the number of frequent-flyer miles that customers may accumulate. Instead, they are offering free rental days, upgrades, prepaid gas cards and merchandise. Awards programs of Hertz, Avis, Alamo, Budget, National, Payless and Thrifty are compared and analyzed.
