Back in the crosshairs
Article Abstract:
In several southern African nations, though the leopard, lion, rhino and elephant are considered an endangered species, hunting them is encouraged. Since large numbers of these wild animals are a threat to people and their livelihood, they are eliminated in controlled numbers in order to maintain a balance between people and animals. Moreover, hunting safaris generates millions of revenues for the local communities; the combined revenues for Namibia, Tanzania and South Africa amount to $100 million per year. There are however many concerns about legalizing the hunting of the protected species.
