American Express cardholders are eligible to receive a Visa or MasterCard from Advanta Corp that enables them to gain mileage credit at locations that do not accept American Express cards. The credit is one-tenth of that which would be given for American Express purchases, making other cards better.

American Express revamped its charge-card bonus program, and it now offers the previous travel benefits, as well as merchandise and educational services. Some of the benefits are not worth using, since they are more expensive than just purchasing an item or are limited in their use.
