Chicago undercover police officer Joe Miedzianowski has been accused by the federal government of various types of corruption, including supplying drugs and guns to gangs. Recorded phone conversations and the testimony of associates have been used to build the case, but Miedzianowski's lawyer points out that the federal investigators have yet to find any actual money or drugs purportedly involved in the illicit transactions.

The cities of Des Plaines and Highland Park in Illinois are a mere 15 miles apart, but the socioeconomic levels between the two have grown apart throughout the 1990s. Highland Park has become a more affluent area with a median family income of almost $140,000 a year, compared to $70,000 in Des Plaines. Many noticeable difference between the two locales are presented.
