The Czech Republic village of Cesky Krumlov has been undergoing a new period of revival since the 1989 fall of communism. It is one of the more beautiful medieval villages in Europe and has been wonderfully preserved, with baroque and Renaissance influences still much in evidence.

Settings described in the 19th-century fairy tales of the Grimm brothers can be seen along the German Fairy Tale Road, or Marchenstrasse. The road begins near Frankfurt and ends near Bremen. A history of the area and hotel and restaurant information are given.

Germany is home to hundreds of castles dating back to before the 15th century. The ones that are in good repair are popular tourist destinations. Saxony and Thuringia are especially dense with such castles, and many in Saxony are for sale.
