Car rentals can be taxing: can you avoid soaring fees?

The taxes and fees charged by car rental companies can add much to the cost of a car rental. An analysis of rates charged by companies located on the airport and off the airport shows that those located on the airport usually charge more. The fees charges also varied by location.

European rentals revisited
Article Abstract:
The prices for summer car rentals in Europe listed in a May 1998 publication differed greatly from the actual prices in many cases. The discrepancies are attributed to car-model differences and supply and demand, but the variance in the discrepancies cannot be easily explained.

Car rentals - which airport?

Rates for renting cars vary greatly at different airports in the same region. In the New York area, for example, rentals at Kennedy airport are substantially more costly than at Newark. Hertz is usually the most expensive, regardless of location.
