Fall
Article Abstract:
The fall of Saigon in 1975 triggered the exodus of thousands of Vietnamese with many making their way to Washington and establishing a thriving community. A correspondent who covered the war and returned years later described the surprising changes in both the places. Washington was a magnet for the first wave of boat people, who represented Vietnam's educated elite and 'Little Saigon' was a place where America's newest immigrants could buy fish sauce and traditional chicken broth.
