The National Rifle Association's (NRA) support for U.S. law enforcement has spawned numerous facilities and groups, including a division devoted exclusively to serving police officers' needs. The NRA also trains NRA Police Firearms Instructors and has a Police Pistol Course competition that recognizes excellence in marksmanship.

The National Rifle Association held free gun safety seminars to provide proper firearms handling to large numbers of new gun owners in California. The post-Los Angeles, CA riots saw 58,000 new firearms purchases.
