Homecoming at Haines
Article Abstract:
Bald eagles converge each fall at the Chilkat Bald Eagle Preserve north of Haines, where they fly over the Haines Highway, laze along the riverbanks or perch on top of trees. The annual visit of bald eagles, who come for the salmon in the Chilkat River, has come to be known as 'The Gathering.'

Larsen Bay, AK, residents reburied the remains of 756 natives that had been dug up in the 1930s by Ales Hrdlicka of the Smithsonian Institution. Hrdlicka's controversial expeditions and the natives' letter-writing campaign to the Smithsonian are described.

Shoot a halibut, kill a record
Article Abstract:
The International Game Fish Association requires that to qualify for a world's record a halibut must not be shot. Alaskan fishermen are in the habit of shooting fish after catching them.
