Katmai: valley of 10,000 smokes
Article Abstract:
The volcanic plains of Katmai were named "Valley of Ten Thousand Smokes" by botanist Robert Griggs in 1916 due to the tremendous amount of volcanic activity in the area. The area, which was named a national park in 1980, features numerous creeks, canyons, and lava craters.
