Article Abstract:
George Harper's pioneering efforts to chronicle the role of African Americans in the history of Alaska spoke volumes about the man and his goal was to provide a record for future generations. He detailed the efforts of the 3,700 African American soldiers from the Deep South who had helped to build the Alaska Highway in 1942.

When winter comes in Alaska, hunters turn their eyes towards ptarmigan. Hunting of ptarmigan is permitted in Alaska from August through mid-March to late-April. Hunters are generally given a generous limit of between 10 and 20 birds/day, depending on the area they are hunting in.
