A successful shared past was the starting point for the new house in the city's East Village, a three-story structure with a facade of vertical planes that conceal what goes on within. Once past that mysterious facade, visitor finds a light-filled setting with views that take in a second-floor loft space and sweep through the length of the house to the garden.

Heather Heinlein and Peter Mullett moved their African art collection from an old firehouse to open their gallery, Arms Akimbo, in River North. The name was taken from a sport fighting stance used in Zaire. The collection was previously operated as a wholesale business.
