Price of pain
Article Abstract:
Illinois attorney general James E. Ryan and his wife have filed a suit against a Chicago hospital in the death of their 12-year-old daughter from an undetected, benign brain tumor. Prior to the case, Ryan, a Republican, had backed his party's tort reform legislation that severely limited liability. The law was ruled unconstitutional, allowing the Ryans to seek more than the previous $500,000 limit. The incident has added fuel to the already heated tort reform debate.
