Caribbean islands staged a quick cleanup after Hurricane Georges battered the region in Sep 1998. Rapid post-storm recovery is necessary because tourism is responsible for 25% of the regional economy. The winter tourism season is not expected to be affected by the hurricane.

Hurricanes Marilyn and Luis hit the Caribbean regions in late 1995 10 days apart and destroyed tourist facilities in many islands. St. Thomas and St. Martin were the hardest hit. Assessments of the damage to tourist facilities in the other islands are presented.
