The Thompson submachine gun was initially ignored by the US military when it was first invented. The Thompson eventually became one of the most famous weapons of World War II and it was widely used not only by US forces but by other allied armies as well.

The M1917 was the most common US-made rifle during the First World War. The rifle's use surpassed that of the US Model 1903 Springfield. The first M1917 rifles were delivered in Aug. 1917. A history of the rifle is presented.
