Societa General Inmobiliare, an Italian real-estate company backed by Vatican money, created the Watergate complex with a striking contemporary design on the riverfront land of the Potoma River in the year 1965. The Watergate with all the VIPs living in it soon became a landmark synonymous with luxurious living, international flair, political power, and scandal.
