Bill Veeck was one of Chicago's best-loved sportsmen as an executive with the Chicago Cubs and as owner of the Chicago White Sox. He loved his fans as evidenced by his unlisted telephone number and doorless office. He helped design the scoreboard at Wrigley, planted the ivy outside the baseball field and built the picnic grounds at Comiskey field.
