Vladimir Chernousenko, the man who headed the Chernobyl cleanup and containment team, has been awarded the 1992 Conde Nast Traveler Environmental Award. Chernousenko was fired due to his outspokenness about the disaster and he is expected to die within the next two years from radiation exposure.
