Volcanologists are studying the active volcanoes in Alaska to better understand the particular volcanoes and discover basic information about volcanoes. Alaska was chosen as a research site because it has 80% of the volcanoes in the US and eight percent of the world's active volcanoes.

A profile of North Pole, Alaska. While North Pole does make a big deal about its Christmas connections, the biggest business in the town is the Williams Alaska petroleum refinery, which processes about 70,000 barrels of crude oil/day. The town has a population of 1,102 over 18 and 468 under 18.
