Christmas Eve at Barrow, AK, in 1914 is a memorable day. Children play all day while waiting for nighttime to fall. At night, people attend mass and are given gifts coming from the mission board of Seattle. Outside, an aurora blazes in the sky, sending Native children scampering to their respective homes because it is believed that the aurora brings bad luck.
