Bat use of remnant old-growth redwood stands
Article Abstract:
Bats use basal hollows in old-growth redwoods as roosts, but most old-growth redwood has been cut. A study was conducted to determine whether bats would use trees in remnant patches of old-growth redwood as roosts. Bat activity was compared by collecting guano in traps and by monitoring bat flight with ultrasonic bat detectors. Bats were found to use basal hollows in small remnants of old growth.
