Adventure travel has become one of the most popular form of vacation. Travelers, however, need to investigate their outfitters to insure they will get a safe trip with all of the activities and accommodations that are promised. There is no industry-wide regulation for adventure packages, except for those laws that exist on a country-by-country basis.

Overseas travelers can take steps to reduce their anxiety over traveling to high risk countries. They can use State Dept. resources that provide travel warnings. It is beneficial to buy cancellation insurance in advance. It is advisable, also, for them not to display their American nationality in unsafe locations.

Beyond bait-and-switch
Article Abstract:
The practice of code-sharing by airlines is rising despite the deception to consumers. Congress recently enacted legislation that requires further disclosure by travel agents, but the new law will not have much enforcement. Other problems are described.
