Wings over the Chilkat
Article Abstract:
Bird watchers from round the world gather in the Alaska Chilkat Bald Eagle Preserve every year from October to January to see the largest concentration of bald eagles in the world. During these months the normal population of the preserve, about 400 birds, increases almost 10-fold as eagles flock to the area to gorge themselves on the spawning salmon in the Chilkat River. To serve these bird watchers, the five-day Alaska Bald Eagle Festival is held in early-November.
