A Quantitative Conservation Approach for the Endangered Butterfly Maculinea alcon
Article Abstract:
Isolation was found to be less important than habitat characteristics when assessing conservation possibilities for the Netherlands butterfly Maculinea alcon. Research from 1998 to 1999 involved host plant abundance, host ant presence, patch area, connectivity between sites and overall heathland area.

Global Warming, Human Population Pressure, and Viability of the World's Smallest Butterfly
Article Abstract:
The Sinai baton blue (Pseudophilotes sinaicus) is used to illustrate the impacts of plant collection, grazing, and global warming on the butterfly's habitat. Risk of extinction was calculated for each factor and implications for conservation biology management are discussed.
