Chains of proteins, catenins, link transmembrane cell-cell adhesion molecules to the cell's inner scaffold is a well known fact. However, scientists James Nelson and William Weis challenge the validity of this linkage by providing evidence for the novel role that aplha-catenin (protein) plays in cell-cell adhesion, challenging the age-old belief that alpha-catenin binds the cells.

Turning the key on p53
Article Abstract:
The interaction between a cancer causing virus and a host protein dubbed 53K is discussed. The p53 protein that is recognized as a tumor suppressor protein because of its ability to prevent undue cell proliferation is among the most effective of the body's natural defenses against cancer.

The host-cell-targeting signal used by Phytophthora infestans to cause late blight in potato is found to be similar to that of the malarial parasite, Plasmodium. The research carried on the effector-protein delivery systems in Plasmodium and Phytophthora is presented.
