A dorsal/ventral boundary established by Notch controls growth and polarity in the Drosophila eye
Article Abstract:
The dorsal and ventral fields of eye units in the compound eye of Drosophila meet to form a line of mirror image symmetry known as the equator, along the dorsoventral midline. The transcription factors encoded by the Iroquois gene complex are thought to be involved in establishing the equator. The Iroquois genes are found to regulate the expression of the Fringe molecule, and Notch is found to be activated at the dorsoventral midline.
