A helping hand in succession
Article Abstract:
Experiments for the rehabilitation of ecosystems conducted on Staten Island, New York and in central Florida reveal that urbanization has led to the fragmentation of natural habitat. The habitation of new species can be promoted by implementing proper measures. Planting trees will attract migratory birds which will in turn bring seeds of immigrant plants from far away sites, resulting in more birds and plants.

Dairy declines hard to swallow
Article Abstract:
The breeding success of swallows is strongly connected with the presence of cattle, according to research undertaken among barn swallow populations in Denmark. It is likely that swallows are negatively affected by the loss of tussocky grassland when dairy farming is replaced with arable farming.
