A multimodal language region in the ventral visual pathway
Article Abstract:
If the region of the brain in the left basal posterior temporal lobe (BA37) is damaged, reading and naming deficits will result. Cortical activations elicited by word processing in congenitally blind, late-blind and sighted subjects were tested using functional neuro-imaging, to determine whether the visual component of reading is required for activation of BA37. All subjects exhibited a common activation of BA37 by words relative to non-word letter-strings.

Common reference frame for neural coding of translational and rotational optic flow
Article Abstract:
Research has established the neurones which are directly involved in optic flow detection via orthogonal axes. The translational and rotational optic flow neurons of a pigeon are investigated. They are found to use the same spacial location system as the vestibular system's semicircular canals. The nerves react more strongly to vertical and horizontal axes stimulation as illustrated.

Moving ahead through differential visual latency
Article Abstract:
Spatial misalignment perceived between moving and strobed objects was found to vary with the luminance of the objects. The results favour the latency-difference hypothesis and reveal that the motion-extrapolation mechanism provides no compensation for stimulus-dependent latency variations. The putative motion-extrapolation may under-compensate by at least 120 ms.
