Robust dinosaur phylogeny?
Article Abstract:
Researchers reported on the skull of a new Jurassic ankylosaur, Gargoyleosaurus, giving a phylogenetic analysis of terminal taxons revealing Gargoyleosaurus as a sister taxon of the Ankylosauridae. Their claim that their preferred tree is robust may not be justified, and their use of aggregate in-group terminal taxa, precluding Gargoyleosaurus placement in either clade, may also undermine their conclusions. The inference that Gargoyleosaurus is an ankylosaurid has not been definitively demonstrated.

Article Abstract:
It has been shown by Carl Swisher, Yuan-qing Wang and colleagues that the Yixian beds in China's Liaoning Province are 124 Myr old placing them within the Early Cretaceous. This was based on measurements from sanidine from volcanic tuffs that form part of the original sediments bearing the fossils. The discovery of such complete fossils from the Yixian Formation has provided further information about lineages.
