Monkeys play the odds
Article Abstract:
The decision theory has been applied by Platt and Glimcher to combined behavioural and neurophysiological experiments in rhesus monkeys. The monkeys performed simple decision-making tasks and neural activity in the lateral intraparietal cortex (LIP) was recorded. They were found to estimate reward size efficiently, but a better understanding of the underlying neural mechanisms is required to determine why such mechanism sometimes fail.

LTP promotes formation of multiple spine synapse between a single axon terminal and a dendrite
Article Abstract:
The morphology of synapses activated by high-frequency stimulation and identified by accumulated calcium in dendritic spines was analysed using electron microscopy. Long-term potentiation (LTP) induction led to a sequence of morphological changes and it was found that the dendritic spines arose from the same dendrite.
