A supernova remnant associated with the young gamma-ray pulsar PSR1706-44
Article Abstract:
Pulsar PSR1706-44 is the fourth radio frequency pulsar to be identified as a source of gamma-ray pulses. After identifying PSR1706-44 as the gamma-ray source using the Energetic Gamma Ray Experiment Telescope aboard the Compton Observatory satellite, the Molonglo Observatory Synthesis Telescope was used to map the field around the pulsar. Supernovae remnants (SNR) were identified in the form of a shell around the pulsar. The other identified radio pulsars that are gamma-ray sources are likewise located within SNR shells

Compensation for wind drift by bumble-bees
Article Abstract:
Bees maintain direct routes between forage areas and their nests, even in winds with a strong cross-track element. Some bees overcompensate slightly, but the majority remain on course by heading partly into the wind and moving obliquely over the ground. It is possible that bees keep on track in cross-winds by adjusting their headings until the direction of ground image movement over their retinae takes place at the angle relative to the Sun's azimuth that corresponds to the intended track.

Tracking bees with harmonic radar
Article Abstract:
The harmonic radar technique is useful in determining many aspects of bee flight and ecology. It is a modification of the harmonic radar principle to measure the trajectories of low-flying insects, and involves the tagging of insects with an electronically nonlinear device. The routes of male bumble bees and the searching flights for nest sites by queens are easily tracked. Reducing the size of the tag will probably render the technique useful for other insects.
