A treasure trove of motors
Article Abstract:
Richards and Cavalier-Smith have performed a comprehensive analysis of the myosin superfamily of motor proteins across a wide sample of eukaryotes, giving insights into how myosins evolved and into the nature of the earliest common ancestor, the cenancestor of eukaryotic cells. The myosins are a diverse group of motor proteins, which move along the actin filaments that form a major component of the cell's internal scaffolding.

Myosin trapped but not tamed
Article Abstract:
Biochemical research using fluorescence excitation indicates that myosin stores energy from adenosine triphosphate hydrolysis. The myosin molecule's interaction with energy is a difficult reaction to analyse in muscle contraction research. Various experimental techniques have failed to illustrate the hydrolytic reaction.

Visualization of an unstable coiled coil from the scallop myosin rod
Article Abstract:
Myosin II is the key protein in muscle contraction and the molecule's two-chain alpha-helical coiled-coil rod region. The physical basis of a particularly weak coiled-coil segment is described.
